Salut djiobex, well, I can understand your frustration. These things don’t quite work the way we want them to. To answer your question very simply, I will say that the verb “manquer” is NOT a transitive verb in this context, that is, because in French, we say: MANQUER à QUELQU’UN (to miss somebody, in an affectionate sense). Look carefully, there is a preposition (à) between Manquer and the object “quelqu’un” (somebody), therefore, TE is NOT a direct object, it is an INDIRECT OBJECT. The question to find TE is “Je manque à qui?” I hope this helps!
