Commands With Vous
If you carefully followed the first lesson in this chapter, you have probably noticed that all the verbs end in -ez.
Christine and Marcel, regardez le tableau. Christine and Marcel, look at the board.
Levez la main, s’il vous plait. Raise your hand, please.
What are commands?
Commands are verbs forms that are used with no subject pronoun to tell or ask somebody to do something.
Why is the word vous sometimes attached are the verbs, (as in “Levez-vous” )?
Such verbs are called reflexive verbs. I will cover this topic in Chapter Two.
That’s it for the grammatical component of this lesson. If you have any questions and/or comments about what I just explained, or if you need more explanation on the subject, just post a comment and I will be more than happy to help. Merci!

hi Herman
how can i use commands with tu ?
how would be the verb?
could you plz give me examples…
muchas gracias
Bonjour,
In order to properly use commands with tu, you will have to refer to their imperative forms. I can give you a few examples, of course, but they need to be learned systematically since many of these verbs do not follow a similar pattern in their conjugations.
But I can tell you that for ER-verbs, (manger, parler, danser, etc.) you simply delete the R at the end of the infinitive to obtain the imperative form with tu, or you can also use the simple tense conjugation of such a verb and delete the final S —> tu manges will become: mange ! (eat!) ; tu parles will become: (parle !) (speak!)
but there are IR verb, RE verbs etc as well and it’s a different story.
mmerci beaucoup Herman
j’ai juste vu votre réponse !
