TOPIC: AT THE RESTAURANT (2)
Here's part 2 of our lesson on French expressions used at the restaurant. Now I have a question for you: Are you a gourmet or a gourmand?
While a gourmet is seen as a food connoisseur, someone who eats to live and who focuses more on the quality of the food rather than is quantity, a gourmand is a "glouton", i.e. stuffing themselves with food of all sorts. So what are you?
1. S'il-vous-plaît...; Pardon...
2. Quelles boissons avez-vous?
What (kind of) drinks do you have?
3. Avez-vous de la bière?
Do you have any beer?
4. Je voudrais (avoir) une bière.
I'd like to have a beer.
5. Pourrais-je avoir une tasse de thé, s'il-vous-plaît?
May I have a cup of tea, please?
6. Pourrais-je avoir de l'eau, s'il-vous-plaît?
May I have some water, please?
7. Bon appétit.
Enjoy your meal.
8. Comment ça se mange?
How do you eat this?
