CHAPTER 8 – Definition – Indefinite article – Article indéfini

The French articles un, une, des are indefinite (article indéfini).  In English, they correspond to the singular a, an, and to the plural some, any (or omitted).

An indefinite article refer to a non-specific item within a category. For example:

Je vois un enfant qui joue au parc. I see a child playing in the park. A child –> This could be one child among many others and/or a random child I don’t know, hence the non-specificity of the article un.
