Let's Definite It!

What's an *abstract noun*?

An abstract noun refers to intangible things. By "intangible", we mean things that cannot be touched, smelled, seen, heard or tasted (i.e things we, humans, can't experience with our five senses).

As such, a quality, state, action or concept such as la paix [peace], la compassion [compassion], le courage [courage] or la haine [hatred] can be described as abstract. At the other end of this category of nouns, you will find concrete nouns.
