Let's Define It!

What's an *agent*?

In French grammar, an agent is normally found in sentences in the passive form/voice. It is the entity that causes the happening marked by the passive verb.

For example, in "J'ai été mouillé par la pluie", the noun pluie (rain) is the agent of the passive verb ai été mouillé [was wet].
