Animate – animé
Let's Define It!
What's an *animate*?
In grammar, animate [animé OR nom animé] relates to a living being.
Now, some may ask me what constitutes a "living being". Can *plants* be placed alonside humans or animals? Good question!
Grammatically speaking, an animate noun may only refer to humans or animals only. So père in "Le père de Victor" (Victor's father) is animate. *chien* in Le chien aboit is another animate refering to the category of animals.
Note that all animate nouns are concrete nouns.
Inanimates will thus be nouns referring to plants, object and abstract nouns.
