What's a *present infinitive*?

L'infinitif présent (known as present infinitive in English) is the basic form of every verb.

Verbs listed in a French dictionnary are in the present infinitive, their basic form. It is from the present infinitive form that all other conjugation variations can take place.

For example, manger, finir, venir, prendre are in the present infinitive.
