In un homme [man], the letter [h] is mute/silent.

In malade [sick], the last syllable de is mute--> (Therefore, we end up with two syllables, ma-lade.

  • "superbesuperb [2 syllables -->su.perbe] The final e is mute, making the syllable be mute as well.
  • un hôtel" hotel --> The letter [h] is mute, making a liaison possible between the n of un and the o of hotel.
  • un hommage" homage--> The letter [h] is mute, making a liaison possible between the n of un and the o of hommage.
