Passive voice – voix passive
Let's Define It!
What's the *passive voice*?
When a sentence is in la voix passive (passive voice), its grammatical subject does NOT do the action of the verb. Instead it is affected by it. For example, in
"La mangue est mangée par Julie." IThe mango is eaten by Julie
the subject la mangue doesn't do the action described by the verb. More precisely, la mangue isn't the one doing the eating described by the verb manger (Julie does.) The subject la mangue is the one affected by the eating performed by Julie (the agent).
