Let's Define It!

What's the *second group*?

The deuxième groupe as it's called in French (or second group in English) refers to -ir verbs such as choisir (to choose) which conjugate in a regular fashion.

The only verb in this group standing as an exception is haïr (to hate)

Curiously, too, there is also a verb in the third group maudire (to curse) which adopts all the conjugated forms of the second group with the exception of its past participle (maudit / maudite) and its infinitive (ending in -ire) .
