What's a *verb*?

A verb (un verbe in French) expresses an action or a state.

A verb can also modify another verb. These verbs are called auxiliaries or semi-auxiliaries and provide information about

  • tense --> (j'ai mangé) [I ate],

  • aspect --> (il marche) [He is walking],

  • voice --> (ce tableau a été peint par Picasso) [This painting was made by Picasso] or

  • mood --> (elle peut nager) [She can swim].
